The GREAT flood of 2008

On Friday night about 7pm a thunder storm moved into the area. At 7am the next morning it was STILL storming. Needless to say we got A LOT of water. I believe the final count was around 11-12 inches.

The pond got very full and uprooted the dock, which is now lodged on the total opposite side, I think they are going to saw the legs off and put barrels under it and let it float around instead of have it anchored to land. The boat is still clinging on!!! In the second picture you can see the whole pond, the dock normally sets on the side closest


We also had a culvert on the road wash out. There is now a gorge where our road used to be. It is about 20 feet down by 10 feet across. The phone cables were dangling, well 1 was dangling, the others were snapped. We were very fortunate to only lose power for a few hours. If you click on the pictures and enlarge them, you can see 1 of the pipes under the trees and another out in the pasture!!!
The 3rd picture is the road in front of our neighbors to the left. That water has gone down now, allowing us to get out!!!







The basement also filled with about 2 feet of water. Luckily Chris knows how to syphon and we were able to get the water out and luckily the air conditioner did not suffer permanent damage!! I have not been brave enough to drag out our Christmas totes. I am sick with the thought of how much damage our decorations have suffered. The basement is not a "finished" basement by any stretch of the imagination, and is pretty nasty, scary, ect.... (once, the air conditioner service wrote "killed snake in basement" on our bill!!! But normally totes are fine in there with a little water. Two feet was a little much for them!!!





side note... the floating beer bottles belong to my brother in law...he had/has quite a large collection stored down there!!!
